Little Free Libraries: Spreading the Love in Raleigh, North Carolina

Have you seen these?  These small wonders are called Little Free Libraries.  On the honor system, readers take a book, read a book, and return a book.

On a recent visit to Raleigh, my best friend and I Google mapped our way around the center of the city and distributed copies of The Dystopian Nation of City-State: An Anthology.  Hopefully, someone’s summer reading list will be infused with the political antics of City-State’s cruel government and the hopeful, yet vengeful Illegals.

  1. I have a Little Free Library in my yard in south Louisiana. It’s so much fun being a library steward. If you are interested in putting Dystopian City State in my LFL, please contact me. I would love to feature your book. Have a great day!

  2. Reblogged this on Robert Mitchell Jr. and commented:
I’m just getting over being sick, and since I don’t have the energy to be original, I’m sharing someone else’s originality. Fun post by some industrious folks availing themselves of a nifty resource. Books rock!

  3. So many books in the UK are being thrown away just for the paper value. Especially by the charity shops. This would be a great idea. People, like me, wanting others to read our book could donate copies.

    1. That’s unfortunate that books are being thrown away. I am an English teacher, and that’s one thing that gets on my nerves – people who just trash great books. I try my best to donate where I can… 😀

  4. I’ve seen these elsewhere. I believe it may have been in Telluride, Colorado, but that was quite some time back so I’m not sure. It’s a really neat idea.

  5. What a neat idea – I’ve seen many vacation spots where free/open book shelves are set up in hotels and such and the honor system works well. I bet the key is to have a dedicated group of volunteers to maintain the little libraries. As one of my friends has noted, everyone wants to help set up something new but it’s hard to find people to do the unglamorous work of maintenance. I’ll pass this url on to my local Friends of the Library. 🙂

    1. That’s great! The look of each library is unique, too. In my pics, someone converted a newspaper holder into a little library – awesome! My hubby loves to build stuff… I should contract him to do one of these! 🙂
